Winter is here – or so it feels outside some days. We have been working on getting 4 new patterns out and below are some photos of these projects. Our latest trek “Discovering Ontario” was Port Hope to the Lakeshore Quilter’s Guild for our usual trunk show. We were met with a very upbeat and enthusiastic group of women who invited us back on December 7th to present our Weekender bag workshop. Let’s hope the weather is in our favour as we have had a few flurries in the air lately.
Our sample quilts were sent to Houston for International Quilt Market and are now back home safe and sound. You can see how they looked in the Pattern Peddlers booth.

Seems like a long time since last posing and I guess it has been 7 months. Summer has come and gone and fall is in the air. We have had a busy summer – with our families. Summer always seems to get in the way of business but we are gearing up for a busy and productive fall. We are now working on 4 new patterns to hopefully be released in the next month – need to have them ready to send to Minnesota to go to Fall Market with our American Distributor, Pattern Peddlers.
Below are some photos of our last few workshops. The top one was August 15th in Haliburton. What a lovely time to go north and Haliburton Highlands Quilt Guild has a much larger membership in the summer with the cottagers. We were warmly welcomed by them and pampered by our billeting host Lindy Smith who not only provided us with great accommodations but fed us three meals while there. Their 2 year old boxer, Spike, was great company as well and spent a good hour snuggled up to Mary on the couch.
The middle picture was taken in April at the local quilt shop in Prescott on April 9th after our trunk show in Kemptville the previous evening and the bottom picture below was taken in February at our local guild – Rouge Valley Quilt Guild, of which Mary an I are members.

Well winter is upon us here in Toronto Light snow today and a small accumulation on the ground. Business is picking up after the Christmas holidays and our schedule is filling up for the spring. We have a number of trunk shows and workshops scheduled as well as participating at Creativ Festival at the International Center in Toronto, April 26-27. One of our local Quilt Guilds, Twisted Stitchers from Ajax will be having a booth to promote our charity work. In conjunction with this we will be presenting our Trunk Show at 1 pm on Friday, April 26 as well as selling patterns in their booth. Please drop by to visit us.
My husband and I are heading to Florida for the month of March so Mary will be manning the ship alone for 5 weeks. Hoping for lots of sunshine, beach and great food. 🙂
In early December we went to Ingersoll to present our Trunk Show to the Oxford Quilter’s Guild on the evening of December 6 and the morning of December 7th. We were billeted by Jean Hillis and what a pleasure to sit with Jean after the meeting and chat about the town and their very active Fiber Arts Center. The Christmas light display was wonderful and well worth a drive to Ingersoll to see this light display created by members of the center. Such a very enthusiastic group of ladies we met at both shows.

Well October came and went in the blink of an eye. Our trip to Ottawa on October 9th to Common Thread Quilt Guild was another lovely trip on our “Discover Ontario” journey. What a great guild – 134 members present that night and the vibe from the audience was infectious. The following day we presented our Weekender Bag workshop to 12 members of the guild. All had chosen to do the quilt-as -you go- method and you can see from the photo the lovely results – such a variety of colour combinations. Hope all you ladies finished the binding and will get lots of use from the bag. Special thanks to Sherrill Crowder for her lovely accommodations while in Orleans.
Our latest projects have been mailed of to Minnesota to then go onto Houston Market this weekend. Check out our newest patterns HBH118 – Quacking Up aprons and HBH 119 – Personally Yours in the pattern section of our website. Happy Sewing

On Tuesday morning, September 18th we headed out at 6:15 am in the pouring rain to St. Mary’s, ON to present our trunk show to the lovely ladies of Stonetowne Quilt Guild. Driving was quite the experience in the dark and rain but we managed to arrive just in time at 9:15 for a 9:30 am meeting. Every trip in our “Discover Ontario” tour is both rewarding and memorable.
A lot is happening and our schedule is getting full. Right after Thanksgiving we are going to Common Thread Quilt Guild in Ottawa for our Trunk Show and Workshop on October 9th and 10th. We will return home on the evening of the 10th and then it’s down to the Metro Convention Center in Toronto for Fall Creativ Festival which is on from October 12-14. Check out the calendar on www.creativfestival.ca under quilting or on page 51 of the creativ festival handbook to see the machine applique class by Trisha on Friday afternoon 1-4 pm, offered through Twisted Stitchers Quilt Guild in Ajax, ON, with supply kit provided by Sew Here Sew Now in Scarborough, ON. There are two other classes being offered through the guild as well – Wave of Colour by Margaret McDonald and Neon Quilting by Sharon Galna.
Here is a photo of our workshop in Lindsay on September 11th. We are meeting so many wonderful ladies and have a great time as well. It is always fun to see such a variety of colours used to make this wonderful bag. Thanks all.
We are gearing up for another busy fall season. You can see where we will be speaking and holding workshop in our “Schedule” section of our blog. Hope to see many of you in our travels. Another pattern is ‘In the Works” for the spring issue 2013 of A Needle Pulling Thread magazine, as well as a couple of new patterns we are hoping to release this fall.

We just wanted to share an email we received in June from a lady who made the ‘Mom & Me Baby Steps” quilt. It so refreshing to hear from people who enjoy our patterns.
“Hi folks. I bought a Mom & Me pattern at a quilt show last fall then bought most of the fabric at the Creativ Festival in October in fat quarters & fat eighths. I have only ever made two quilts before & never done applique or embroidery…although I know how to sew!! This was to be a “project” I could work on while I was in Mexico for 3 months Jan-Mar. as I found it was too hot to knit. I LOVED working on it. I hand appliqued, hand embroidered (with blanket stitch) the 13 sections while I was there. When I returned in April, I bought sashing, border, backing & batting. I machine stitched the sashes & border then hand quilted. I met someone who knows you while I was at Sew Sisters buying fabric & she even took a few pictures of the blocks & told me I should email you a picture of the finished product. I finished it last week, just in time for my grand daughter’s 4th birthday. I haven’t seen it hung yet (except on my design wall) but it will be on a shocking pink wall in her bedroom.
It made the best project to do by hand as each animal was different. No time to get bored. I plan to make the energized bunnies next year. Thanks for the great pattern. Cheers, Diane”
Here are pictures of the above mentioned quilt – left one is on her design wall once completed & right one is on her granddaughter’s shocking pink wall. Thanks Diane for sharing.
The hot summer weather is upon us bringing showers and loud claps of thunder. Finally got some gardening done so the rain is welcomed by all. As we continue to “Discover Ontario” we headed east to Kingston, Ontario on June 9th to attend Quilts Kingston, presented by Limestone Quilters’ Guild and Kingston Heirloom Quilters of Kingston. Beautiful quilts on display, great vendors in the Merchant’s Mall and lots of interesting items in the Quilters’ Boutique.
From there we headed to Clayton, N. Y. and stopped by the quilt show there. Much smaller show that Kingston but always interesting to experience different venues. We spent two night in Watertown, N.Y. and hit Joanne’s Fabrics, the mall, Target, TJMax, Bon Ton, JC Penney etc….Of course we checked out the baby items in all stores.
Then it was back to Kingston where we presented our Trunk Show on Wednesday evening and our Workshop on Thursday to the lovely ladies of Limestone Quilt Guild. Special thanks to Lillian, Charlene and Anne for making our stay enjoyable and letting us share in your fabulous pot luck dinner. Now it’s time to relax from our travels, put on the thinking caps and start working on our guild challenge over the summer and our next submission for a Needle Pulling Thread magazine which should appear in Spring 2013 issue.
Pictured below are some of the ladies from Limestone Quilters’ Guild working on their Weekender Bag.
May 2012 International Quilt Market was held in Kansas City. We shipped our two newestpattern samples – HBH116 – Kitchen Kritters Aprons and HBH117 – We Are The World, to our American Distributor, Pattern Peddlers, and below you will see them displayed in their booth in KS.
It’s hard to believe that so much time has passed without any new posts. We have continued to be busy with our trunk shows and workshops. On May 23rd we were in Midland, Ontario at the Georgian Bay Quilter’s Guild for a very lovely experience presenting our trunk show. What a lovely town Midland is. We enjoyed dinner on an outside patio overlooking Georgian Bay with a couple of the ladies from the guild. Midland has nice shops and we enjoyed time browsing through on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Thank you Georgian Bay Quilt Guild and special thanks to Charlene for your warm welcome and beautiful accommodations.

On March 12th, we set out early in the morning for Dundas, ON, to do our workshop on the ColorPlay Weekender Bag with Hamilton Quilter’s Guild. They had a full compliment of 20 ladies registered and set to go in a lovely old church with windows on both sides, plenty of room for all. What a great group of women we worked with from 10 am – 3:30 pm. It was very labour intense working with such a large group but everyone worked hard, no complaints heard and hopefully everyone felt they received enough individual attention. As you can see below by the end of the session everyone had their bags together, most had their side pockets attached and one or more were starting to attach their bindings. Thanks ladies and particularly Barbara Lazier. workshop coordinator, for arranging the event.

It been two weeks since CreativFestival at the International Center in Toronto and we are very happy to report we had a great weekend, long in hours but time went fast in “A Needle Pulling Thread ” booth. Thanks Carla for the great opportunity and thanks to Joanne, Ester,June and the lady from the audience for helping hold up our quilts at our Trunk show. Our show was a success and we want to thank all those who attended. We hope we gave you a few giggles while resting your feet from tracking through the halls. We talked to a lot of people and made lots of contacts. Hope to see some of you again at another show or maybe your quilt guild one day. Please email us with pics of your finished projects.
CreativFestival – Aril 27th & 28th is slowly creeping up on us all. Our bags are packed, all our critters are put to sleep for a few nights before the big reveal. When not presenting our trunk show at 1:30 each day, you can find us at “A Needle Pulling Thread” booth where our patterns will be for sale.
‘Personally Yours’ is a self portrait done by Trisha as a challenge from Twisted Stitchers Quilt Guild, Ajax, Ontario, September 2010. Pattern, instructions and diagrams are now published in “A Needle Pulling Thread” magazine Spring 2012. Pick up a copy and make this wall hanging for yourself or a friend to hang in their sewing room. A variety of hair styles are included in the pattern to help you personalize your quilt. Happy Sewing
Here’s an excerpt from April 2012 Newsletter from the Halton’s Quilter’s Guild posted on their website before our visit to their guild on April 5th. Thanks Lynne and Linda for the great introduction
“We’re all about to be Harebrained!”
“Always wanted to see a hippo wearing pink ballet slippers? Or maybe you dream of lions in green shoes. Check out the delightful works made by Trisha and Mary at
www.harebrainedhappenings.com . We will have the pleasure of their company – and the company of all of their critters – at our April meeting. Put a smile on and come see what these two Canadian “Crafty Ladies” are doing.”

Mary and I are happy to say that we had a very pleasant, and we feel well received, evening doing our trunk show at Halton Quilter’s Guild, in Burlington, Ontario. We were greeted at the door with lots of helpers to drag our suitcases in to the meeting room, a very nice introduction from Lynne, program coordinator and lots of helping hands to hold up our quilts and then display them around the room for all to see at break time. The compliments were flowing and we came home very happy and pleased with ourselves and the outcome of the night.
Mary’s daughter Kim came along to help as Mary had cataract surgery on Monday past and couldn’t lift anything heavy and I had some laryngitis which was like the saying – See no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil. But even with Mary’s crocodile fabric eye patch and my squeaky voice they did get to see the quilts, hear our talk and ask lots of questions.
Thank you Halton Quilter’s Guild for inviting us to your meeting.

What a friendly, organized guild Hamilton’ Quilter’s Guild turned out to be. We were warmly welcomed to their monthly meeting and presented with a copy of their “Quilts In Bloom 2008” 25th Anniversary cookbook at the end of the night. Delicious home baked goodies were to be had at the beginning of the meeting to be enjoyed while listening to the meeting proceed, followed by our trunk show. We are looking forward to returning to Hamilton Quilt Guild on May 12th to do our workshop on our HBH 401 pattern – ColorPlay Weekender Bag. See you all then.
